La torre si distingue dai suoi contemporanei per la sua pianta trapezoidale e la sua scala a chiocciola incastonata in una torretta. Oltre a queste caratteristiche, la sua architettura è tipica delle torri maestre del Midi, costruite tra il XII e il XIV secolo. Simbolo del potere comunale e poi reale, la torre poteva avere anche un ruolo difensivo e fungere da dimora temporanea nei momenti di crisi. Oggi la torre ospita diverse esposizioni: una sala è dedicata a Nino Ferrer, un'altra a mostre temporanee, mentre agli ultimi due piani si trova la mostra permanente "Montcuq nel Medioevo". Ammirate il panorama mozzafiato dalla terrazza sul tetto.
