La capilla de Gabás se fundó en 1121 según los deseos de Gastón IV, vizconde de Bearn. Fue consagrada el mismo año por Arnaud d'Araux, obispo de Oloron: Chapelle Gaston Phebus de Gabas.
En la confluencia de los caminos de Santiago que atraviesan los valles de Ossau y de Aspe, es el único vestigio que queda del complejo del "Hôpital de la Miséricorde" que dirigían los canónigos de San Agustín de Candanchú.
