Antiguo lugar de peregrinación a la Virgen María, se dice que fue fundado por un duque de Borgoña, que se perdió en el bosque de camino a Compostela, de ahí el nombre de Bergounhoux. El éxito de este lugar de devoción fue considerable: en 1524, se dice que la cofradía más importante de la diócesis estaba allí. Los Vezins, protectores del lugar, lo mantuvieron: en 1431 Vezian de Vezins hizo construir una capilla que contenía una Piedad de principios del siglo XVI.
