Ancien lieu de pèlerinage à la Vierge qui aurait été fondé par un duc de Bourgogne, qui se serait perdu dans les bois en se rendant à Compostelle, d'où le nom de Bergounhoux. Le succès de ce lieu de dévotion fût considérable : il y avait là en 1524 la confrérie la plus importante du diocèse, dit-on. Les Vezins protecteurs du lieu l'entretinrent : en 1431 Vezian de Vezins fit construire une chapelle renfermant une Piéta du début du XVI ème siècle.
