Situado en el corazón de la llanura de Brienne y en la ruta de la vía romana Troyes-Montier en der, Perthes les Brienne no siempre ha sido conocido por este nombre. Los documentos que datan de 1632 mencionan el pueblo como Perthes en Rothière hasta 1919. En la Edad Media, el señorío de Perthes pertenecía a la abadía de Boulancourt, en el municipio de Longeville sur la Laines, en la Alta Marne. Hoy en día, Perthes es famosa por su producción de col para chucrut. Del pasado queda la iglesia de Saint Denis, del siglo XVI, con entramado de madera.
