Para dar rienda suelta a su pasión por la caza, François-Marie, hijo del duque de Vitry y señor de Châteauvillain, hizo construir en 1655 un muro de piedra de seis kilómetros, reservando 272 hectáreas de bosque en la entrada oriental de la ciudad.

A lo largo de los años, la caza se ha multiplicado y ha "modelado" el parque a su antojo.

El centenar de gamos que viven en el parque han abandonado ciertas especies, lo que ha permitido el desarrollo de acónitos, hiedras venenosas, jolibois y otras plantas muy vistosas que dan un aspecto muy singular al paisaje forestal.

Al Parque de los Delfines se entra por la Puerta Madame, una de las tres puertas de acceso a la ciudad de Châteauvillain en la Edad Media.

El Parc aux Daims está abierto del 1 de noviembre al 30 de abril de 9:00 a 17:00 y del 1 de mayo al 30 de septiembre de 8:00 a 20:00.
