Grand Soldat, una aldea de Abreschviller, se llamaba originalmente Soldatenthal, nombre que significa "valle del soldado" o "de los soldados". Este nombre proviene de una estatua de Mercurio o Marte que se encuentra allí. El Gran Soldado es el final del ferrocarril, una antigua red maderera convertida en línea turística. Durante la visita, se puede visitar un aserradero de hierro alto. Grand Soldat es el lugar de nacimiento del escritor Alexandre Chatrian (1826-1890). Su casa natal está en el número 7 (placa sobre la puerta). Es más conocido por el seudónimo común de "Erckmann-Chatrian" Erckmann-Chatrian" que comparte con su amigo Émile Erckmann.
