El Recorrido
Integrada en una ruta transfronteriza proveniente de Offenburg, esta vía verde sale de Estrasburgo dirección sur por un carril bici acondicionado a lo largo del ILL, río que riega la metrópoli alsaciana.

El canal fue construido por Vauban para transportar las piedras de arenisca de los Vosgos destinadas a la edificación de las fortificaciones de Estrasburgo desde 1682 hasta 1687 y cuenta con once antiguas esclusas.
Hasta 950 barcos fueron contabilizados en el canal en 1782 y fue utilizado hasta 1938.
