La estación fue inaugurada en 1902. Donald Mackenzie, anteriormente jefe de estación en la estación de tren de Georgemas Junction, fue nombrado primer jefe de la estación de Dornoch. La estación estaba situada cerca de la Catedral de Dornoch.
La estación era el término de la Dornoch Light Railway, una línea secundaria que más tarde se incorporó a la London, Midland and Scottish Railway y a la Región Escocesa de British Railways en 1948.
