Het station werd geopend in 1902. Donald Mackenzie, voorheen stationsmaster op het Georgemas Junction-station, werd aangesteld als eerste stationsmaster van Dornoch. Het station bevond zich in de buurt van de Dornoch-kathedraal.
Het station was het eindpunt van de Dornoch Light Railway, een takspoorlijn die later werd opgenomen in de London, Midland and Scottish Railway en de Schotse regio van British Railways in 1948.
