Agrinio es un municipio situado en la unidad periférica de Etolia-Acarnania. Según el censo de 2011, tiene una población de 94 181 habitantes.[2]
Los inicios de la ciudad se remontan al menos hasta la época de la Grecia Clásica. La ciudad antigua de Agrinium estaba a 3 km de la ciudad actual. Excavaciones arqueológicas han desenterrado muros y restos de edificios. Hasta 1836, la ciudad se conocía como Vrachori .
