Las cisternas subterráneas de Micenas contienen un notable pasaje subterráneo que se extendía a 18 metros bajo tierra. Esta construcción servía para mantener el acceso a una fuente fuera de las murallas de la ciudad durante los asedios. El pasaje contenía escaleras y giros para confundir a los intrusos, lo que indica estrategias defensivas contra la infiltración enemiga. Los micénicos combinaron este pasaje con cisternas normales para crear una doble seguridad hídrica, esencial para una ciudad sin fuente natural en la Acrópolis. Esta hazaña técnica ilustra la experiencia micénica en la arquitectura militar y civil, con una infraestructura subterránea que sostenía, literal y figurativamente, los cimientos de su civilización.
