El ayuntamiento de La Haya tiene como apodo Palacio de Hielo debido a su color blanco. También se caracteriza por el atrio, el más grande de los Países Bajos, tan amplio como la Piazza San Marco en Venecia. El arquitecto es el estadounidense Richard Meier. El diseño comenzó en 1986. Fue construido en el período de 1990 a 1995. El cliente para la construcción es el fondo de pensiones ABP, el contratista Wilma Bouw. Los costos de construcción ascendieron a 125 millones de euros, la superficie bruta es de 131.000 m². En el mismo edificio también se encuentra la Biblioteca Pública de La Haya.
