Das Rathaus von Den Haag trägt den Spitznamen Eispalast wegen seiner weißen Farbe. Es zeichnet sich auch durch das Atrium aus, das größte in den Niederlanden, genauso groß wie der Markusplatz in Venedig. Der Architekt ist der Amerikaner Richard Meier. Mit dem Entwurf wurde 1986 begonnen. Es wurde in der Zeit von 1990 bis 1995 gebaut. Der Auftraggeber für den Bau ist das ABP-Pensionsfonds, der Bauunternehmer Wilma Bouw. Die Baukosten betrugen 125 Millionen Euro, die Bruttogrundfläche beträgt 131.000 m². In demselben Gebäude befindet sich auch die Öffentliche Bibliothek von Den Haag.
