Het stadhuis van Den Haag heeft als bijnaam IJspaleis wegens zijn witte kleur. Het kenmerkt zich ook door het atrium, het grootste van Nederland, even ruim als de Piazza San Marco in Venetië. De architect is de Amerikaan Richard Meier. Met het ontwerp werd in 1986 begonnen. Het werd gebouwd in de periode 1990-1995. De opdrachtgever tot de bouw is het ABP Pensioenfonds, de aannemer Wilma Bouw. De bouwkosten bedroegen € 125 miljoen, het bruto vloeroppervlak is 131.000 m². In hetzelfde gebouw is ook de Openbare Bibliotheek Den Haag gevestigd.
