En esta iglesia también está enterrado el científico Rembert Dodoens. Nacido en 1517 en Malinas, muere aquí en Leiden en 1585. Era tanto botánico como médico. La primera contribución importante de Dodoens a la botánica fue que él mismo comenzó a buscar y describir plantas. Esto resultó en un enorme aumento en el número de especies descritas. Él describió aproximadamente 1340 especies, de las cuales unas 600 eran nuevas. En su Cruydeboeck de 1554, rompe decididamente con la tradición al no clasificar las plantas alfabéticamente, sino según sus características externas. Esto fue de enorme importancia para la biología. Así, estableció un marco sistemático en el cual se podían clasificar las plantas.
