IJsseloog es una isla artificial en medio del Ketelmeer que tiene como objetivo almacenar sedimentos contaminados del fondo del lago. Además, tiene una función de recreación y desarrollo natural. La isla debe su nombre a su ubicación frente a la desembocadura del IJssel y a la forma del depósito de sedimentos, redonda como un ojo, lo que minimiza la superficie de contacto del depósito de sedimentos con el entorno. Además, la palabra "oog" es una antigua palabra neerlandesa para isla. Piensa en Schiermonnikoog o Lauwersoog.
