Con la Liberación de Groningen o la Liberación de Groninga se celebra que la provincia de Groningen y no solo Groningen resistió el asedio de Bernhard von Galen, obispo de Münster, en el año desastroso de 1672. El 17 de agosto de ese año, y después de un asedio de apenas un mes, el obispo ordenó a sus tropas que se retiraran.
