La páramo de Gooise está llena de pozos que se formaron por las excavaciones de grava. Los habitantes de la zona durante mucho tiempo, hasta bien entrado el siglo XX e incluso en el periodo del Reserva Natural de Goois que se estableció en 1932, obtuvieron ingresos de la extracción de la morrena. Arena y grava eran materiales utilizados en la construcción. En particular, en la Westerheide cerca del St. Janskerkhof, todavía son visibles muchos de estos pozos de grava.
