A principios del siglo XII, se fundó una abadía en esta área, la Abadía Norbertina de Marienweerd. A lo largo de los años, esta abadía se convirtió en un monasterio muy rico. Después de la Reforma, el monasterio pasó a manos de la familia Van Bylandt en 1734, donde también recibió el estatus de 'Alto señorío'. Los descendientes de esta familia todavía son propietarios y gestionan / operan la actual Finca Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt. La entrada a la finca está marcada al comienzo de la Notenlaan por una hermosa puerta de entrada. La mansión fue construida en el siglo XVIII sobre las bóvedas de la antigua abadía, cuyos sótanos con arcos de medio punto aún se pueden ver.
