Forma parte de una franja verde que recorre toda la parte este de Noord, desde Vliegenbos hasta el cruce de la Ringweg A10 con la Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg. El parque recibió oficialmente su nombre por decisión del consejo del distrito de Noord el 11 de septiembre de 1996; se nombró así en honor al Baanakkerspad, que ya había recibido su nombre el 30 de octubre de 1963 en referencia al área natural De Baanakkers en el Wormer- y Jisperveld. El nombre del camino se aplica a todos los caminos del parque.
