Cela fait partie d'une bande verte qui traverse toute la partie est de Noord, du Vliegenbos jusqu'à l'intersection de la Ringweg A10 avec la Nieuwe Leeuwarderweg. Le parc a officiellement reçu son nom par décision du conseil de l'arrondissement de Noord le 11 septembre 1996 ; il a été nommé d'après le Baanakkerspad, qui avait déjà reçu son nom le 30 octobre 1963 en hommage à la réserve naturelle De Baanakkers dans le Wormer- et Jisperveld. Le nom du chemin s'applique à tous les chemins du parc.
