Este puente peatonal sobre la Hoenderlaan hacia el parque en el barrio Veller de Barneveld se llama así en honor al alcalde Asje van Dijk. El puente peatonal simboliza el papel de unión de Van Dijk, una función de puente en la sociedad de Barneveld.
Van Dijk fue alcalde de Barneveld desde el 8 de diciembre de 2011. El 12 de junio de 2020 anunció su marcha como alcalde de Barneveld. Se fue el 1 de febrero de 2021 y a partir de esa fecha fue sucedido por Jan Luteijn como alcalde interino.
