Los primeros cruzados se establecieron en el siglo XVII alrededor de Uden. Fueron expulsados de la ciudad tras el Sitio de 's-Hertogenbosch y se establecieron en la libre Tierra de Ravenstein, donde Uden estaba incluida. Fundaron, entre otras cosas, una escuela latina, un monasterio y una capilla. También fueron los fundadores del monasterio María Refugio, que más tarde fue vendido a las brigitanas de Coudewater. En 1712 construyeron una capilla octogonal en Uden, donde según una leyenda había un árbol de tilo con una imagen de la Virgen María. A principios del siglo XX se construyó un nuevo complejo, que consistía en el monasterio y la capilla de los cruzados. Este complejo fue construido entre 1904 y 1905 según el diseño de Caspar Franssen.
