El Papenpad es un camino antiguo que los creyentes católicos (llamados Paap) de Bennekom y posiblemente también de la zona detrás de este, utilizaban en su camino hacia Renkum. Allí se celebraban servicios católicos en el castillo de Grunsfoort en el valle del arroyo Renkums. En Beukenlaan todavía puedes encontrar un panel informativo. Después de que Sandrina van Stepraedt, ferviente católica, se convirtió en viuda tras el fallecimiento de su esposo protestante, se comenzaron a realizar esos servicios en el terreno del castillo. Incluso había un párroco que se encargaba de los servicios religiosos en el castillo. En 1726, el propietario del castillo falleció dejando enormes deudas y el castillo tuvo que ser vendido. El final de Grunsfoort como centro de los católicos en la zona, pero el Papenpad mantuvo su nombre.
