Este busto en honor a João Ferreira Franco Castelo Branco, más conocido como João Franco , fue realizado en 1934.
El busto, obra del escultor Teixeira Lopes , formaba parte de un complejo diseñado por el arquitecto Marques da Silva.
João Franco nació el 14 de febrero de 1855 y murió en abril de 1929. Estudió Derecho en la Universidad de Coímbra y fue uno de los políticos más importantes de la última fase de la monarquía constitucional portuguesa. En 1884 João Franco fue elegido miembro del poder judicial portugués. como diputado por Guimarães . Tras su elección se produjo un gran conflicto entre Braga y Guimarães , que atrajo la atención de todo el país y con la mayor energía defendió la causa de la ciudad que le había votado, lo que le valió expresiones de simpatía de sus votantes.
