Esta es una de las cinco capillas que quedan de las siete que se construyeron.
En las primeras décadas del siglo XVIII, las ceremonias del Vía Crucis en Guimarães, durante la Cuaresma, ya eran organizadas por la Irmandade da Consolação y Santos Passos.
Para ello, se distribuyeron cruces en diferentes puntos de la ciudad y la representación de los diferentes pasos de la Pasión de Cristo corrió a cargo de una figura de Braga, en régimen de alquiler. En 1726, la Hermandad comenzó a erigir un Vía Crucis de granito en diferentes puntos de la ciudad, formado por siete pequeñas capillas, repletas de figuras de tamaño natural en madera pintada.
