El Canal Rangsit fue el primer proyecto de irrigación en Tailandia. El Rey Chulalongkorn ordenó su construcción en 1890 y designó al Príncipe Sai Sanitvongse (abuelo materno del Príncipe Rangsit) como líder del proyecto. El canal comienza en la orilla este del río Chao Phraya en Ban Mai del distrito de Mueang Pathum Thani en la provincia de Pathum Thani. Luego corre hacia el este, pasando por Thung Luang y desemboca en el río Nakhon Nayok en el distrito de Ongkharak, provincia de Nakhon Nayok.
En el pasado, el área alrededor del Canal Rangsit desde las provincias de Pathum Thani hasta Nakhon Nayok era la mayor zona de cultivo de mandarinas en Tailandia, con no menos de 150,000 rai (aproximadamente 59,288 acres), produciendo el 80% de la producción del país. La mandarina Rangsit era ilustre, similar a la mandarina Bang Mot del vecindario Bang Mot en Thonburi, Bangkok, de hoy.
