Ohio es uno de los cincuenta estados que, junto con Washington D. C. forman los Estados Unidos de América. Su capital y ciudad más poblada es Columbus.
Está ubicado en la región Medio Oeste del país, división Centro Noreste, limitando al noroeste con Míchigan, al norte con el lago Erie, al este con Pensilvania, al sur con el río Ohio que lo separa de Virginia Occidental y Kentucky , y al oeste con Indiana. Con 11 689 100 habitantes en 2019 es el séptimo estado más poblado —por detrás de California, Texas, Nueva York, Florida, Illinois y Pensilvania— y con 99,37 hab/km², el décimo más densamente poblado, por detrás de Pensilvania, Florida, Nueva York, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island y Nueva Jersey. Fue admitido en la Unión el 1 de marzo de 1803, como el estado número 17.
