El minarete Kalyan también es conocido como "la torre de la muerte" porque las personas condenadas a muerte (¡antiguamente!) eran arrojadas desde la cima del minarete. El minarete Kalyan data de 1127. Fue construido por Arslan-khan y es el símbolo principal de la santa Bukhara. Está hecho de ladrillos y tiene una altura de 45.5 metros. En la base, el minarete tiene un diámetro de 9 metros, y en la parte superior de 6 metros. El cilindro está coronado con una rotonda con 16 ventanas. El minarete está conectado a la mezquita Kalyan a través de un pequeño puente. A través de 105 escalones llegas a la rotonda.
