Il n'est pas clair depuis combien de temps des vignes poussent sur la Wijngaardberg. Cependant, vous pouvez encore aujourd'hui voir le 'mur de pierres', une construction en grès ferrugineux datant de 1814, qui mesure environ 1,5 kilomètre de long et servait à protéger le vignoble des vents du nord. En 1834, la superficie de ce vignoble était de 32 hectares, mais vers 1845, la viticulture y a soudainement été arrêtée. Aujourd'hui, l'association Steenen Muur exploite trois vignobles sur cette montagne, avec une superficie totale de 70 ares.
