Hoelang er op de Wijngaardberg al wijndruiven groeien, is niet duidelijk. Wel kun je vandaag nog de 'stenen muur' zien, een bouwsel in ijzerzandsteen uit 1814 dat zowat 1,5 kilometer lang is en dat diende om de wijngaard te beschermen tegen noordenwind. In 1834 bedroeg de oppervlakte van deze wijngaard 32 hectare, maar rond 1845 werd de wijnbouw hier plots stopgezet. Vandaag exploiteert de vzw Steenen Muur drie wijngaarden op deze berg, met een totale oppervlakte van 70 are.
