Le fort d’Eben-Emael a été construit entre la Première et la Seconde Guerre mondiale et était considéré comme le fort le plus fort du monde. Cependant, les attaquants allemands ont réussi à éliminer le fort en un temps record de quinze minutes pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et après un siège d’un jour et demi, le fort a dû capituler.
Le fort d’Eben-Emael a servi de toile de fond à la série télévisée « De Smaak van de Keyser ». Alfred et George sont arrivés ici en 1939 après leur mobilisation jusqu’à ce que les Allemands prennent le fort.
