Sur Wijgmaal, il y a plus à raconter que simplement l'histoire du site Remy. Saviez-vous par exemple que Wijgmaal appartenait à Herent et non à Louvain jusqu'à la fusion en 1977 ? Plus loin dans le temps, le village a été durement touché pendant la Première et la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Au cours des deux guerres, plusieurs victimes sont à déplorer, tant des militaires que des civils. De plus, un grand nombre de bâtiments dans le village ont été détruits, en particulier pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ainsi, le pont sur le canal et la Dijle ont été anéantis au début de la guerre. Certains noms de rues, comme la rue des 5e lignes, rappellent encore ce passé de guerre.
