L'abbaye a été fondée au 13ème siècle et se trouvait initialement sur les rives de la Durme. Malgré les destructions et les difficultés pendant les guerres de religion(2), l'abbaye a existé jusqu'à ce que la domination française(8) mette brutalement fin à son existence. Tous les biens ont été saisis et détruits. Mais les sœurs ont réussi à se réunir.
Depuis 1975, elles sont établies dans le remarquable couvent à Oudeheerweg-Heide, conçu par le bénédictin Hans Van der Laan. Près de l'abbaye, un musée captivant a été aménagé pour raconter le passé tumultueux de cette communauté courageuse et puissante. Le musée est fermé
