L'église de salle construite entre les constructions en bande a été conçue en 1956 par l'architecte Joseph Willems à la demande de l'usine d'église. Elle devait remplacer le bâtiment temporaire de l'église de 1932 situé dans la rue Tirinus et devenir une véritable église paroissiale pour le nouveau quartier résidentiel en développement depuis l'entre-deux-guerres. À cet endroit central du Plan d'Aménagement Particulier du quartier, la création de l'église était toujours prévue.
