Le château et le parc qui l’entoure appartenaient autrefois à la famille Van Ackere dans le style paysager anglais. Il s’agissait à l’origine d’un parc d’ornement privé et beaucoup plus petit (jusqu’aux pavillons).
En 1954, le conseil municipal de l’époque a acheté le parc et l’a rendu public avec un superviseur du parc. Par exemple, les visiteurs n’étaient autorisés à marcher que sur les sentiers et les enfants se voyaient attribuer une aire de jeux limitée. Plus tard, une bibliothèque a été construite dans le parc, un court de tennis a été construit et une piscine et une salle de sport ont été construites à la périphérie. Le caractère originel du parc a disparu.
