Früher war das Schloss und der umliegende Park im englischen Landschaftsstil im Besitz der Familie Van Ackere. Es war ursprünglich ein privater Ziergarten und viel kleiner (bis zu den Pavillons).
1954 kaufte die damalige Gemeindeverwaltung den Park und stellte ihn öffentlich mit einem Parkaufseher zur Verfügung. So durften die Besucher nur auf den Wegen spazieren und Kinder wurden ein begrenzter Spielbereich zugewiesen. Später wurde im Park eine Bibliothek gebaut, ein Tennisplatz angelegt und am Rand entstanden ein Schwimmbad und eine Sporthalle. Der ursprüngliche Charakter des Parks ging verloren.
