In passato il castello e il parco circostante in stile paesaggistico inglese erano di proprietà della famiglia Van Ackere. Era originariamente un parco privato e molto più piccolo (fino ai padiglioni).
Nel 1954 l’allora giunta comunale acquistò il parco e venne reso pubblico con un sorvegliante del parco. Così i visitatori potevano camminare solo sui sentieri e i bambini avevano un’area di gioco limitata. Successivamente venne costruita una biblioteca nel parco, fu realizzato un campo da tennis e ai margini vennero costruiti una piscina e una palestra. Il carattere originale del parco scomparve.
