Les merlons sont des murs surélevés qui ont été construits autour des bâtiments de munitions .
Ils servaient à empêcher les flammes de se propager à d'autres bâtiments en cas d' explosion ou d'incendie .
Les bâtiments miniatures ont été démolis en 2007-2008. De nombreuses bruyères rares poussent sur les versants sud des merlons.
A proximité se trouve la heidetoren qui mesure 6 mètres de haut. L'architecture est basée sur les tours de guet des prisonniers de guerre de 1945-1946 qui se trouvaient ici dans les camps de tentes. Il a ensuite été réutilisé comme dépôt de munitions.
