Cette croix de pierre se dresse près du pont sur le ravin et marque l'endroit où, en 1808 , un habitant du quartier, Onulphe Joseph Collard (âgé de 44 ans), mourut tragiquement lors d'une chute.
Le site, connu sous le nom de Puits des Vaux ou Trou Collard , est profond d'environ 30 mètres. Aucun document ne prouve que Joseph Collard y soit tombé. On mentionne seulement qu'il y a subi un accident mortel, d'où son surnom de « Trou Collard » et l'érection d'une croix en sa mémoire.
