En 1935, Walt Disney est venu à Munich parce que "Mickey Mouse" passait dans les cinémas bavarois. Il a ensuite acheté presque 150 livres d'images et œuvres illustrées dans des librairies locales pour familiariser les jeunes illustrateurs de sa fabrique de rêve avec l'art européen. C'est pourquoi les paysages des films Disney comme "Bambi" semblent directement issus des tableaux du romantique allemand Caspar David Friedrich.
