In 1935 kwam Walt Disney naar München omdat ‘Mickey Mouse’ in de Beierse bioscopen werd vertoond. In de plaatselijke boekhandels kocht hij toen bijna 150 prentenboeken en geïllustreerde werken om de jonge tekenaars van zijn droomfabriek vertrouwd te maken met de Europese kunst. Zo komt het dat de landschappen van Disney-films zoals Bambi recht uit de schilderijen van de Duitse romanticus Caspar David Friedrich lijken te komen.
