Depuis le 1er janvier 1929, le village de Petzow est un quartier de la ville de Werder, dans l’arrondissement de Potsdam-Mittelmark dans le Brandebourg.
Le village a été mentionné pour la première fois dans un document en 1419. À cette époque, Petzow appartenait aux ducs de Saxe-Wittenberg. En 1437, le village est devenu un fief au monastère cistercien de Lehnin. Grâce à la sécularisation en 1542, le village est devenu un village administratif de l’Amt de Lehnin, en même temps que le village est entré en possession du Brandebourg.
