Sur le site de l'actuelle caserne se trouvait, de 1892 jusqu'à la fin de la Première Guerre mondiale, le laboratoire royal prussien de pyrotechnie – l'une des deux usines de munitions de Siegburg. En 1920, les troupes d'occupation françaises ont construit la Caserne du Verdun sur l'emplacement de l'ancien laboratoire de pyrotechnie. Les troupes françaises ont quitté Siegburg en 1926. Par la suite, en 1931, la plupart des bâtiments de l'ancienne usine de munitions ont été démolis. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, un camp militaire belge se trouvait sur le Brückberg.
