Op het terrein van de huidige kazerne bevond zich van 1892 tot het einde van de Eerste Wereldoorlog het Koninklijk Pruisische Vuurwerklaboratorium – een van de twee munitiefabrieken in Siegburg. In 1920 werd op het terrein van het voormalige vuurwerklaboratorium door de Franse bezettingstroepen de Caserne du Verdun gebouwd. De Franse troepen verlieten Siegburg in 1926. Daarna werden in 1931 de meeste gebouwen van de oude munitiefabriek afgebroken. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog bevond zich op de Brückberg een Belgisch militair kamp.
