From 1892 until the end of the First World War, the Royal Prussian Fireworks Laboratory was located on the site of today's barracks – one of two munitions factories in Siegburg. In 1920, the Caserne du Verdun was built on the site of the former fireworks laboratory by the French occupying forces. The French troops left Siegburg in 1926. As a result, most of the buildings of the old ammunition factory were demolished in 1931. After the Second World War, a Belgian military camp was located on the Brückberg.
