Le Rüpingsbach et son principal affluent, le Grotenbach, forment un cours d'eau dans le sud de Dortmund et mesurent ensemble huit kilomètres de long.
La source historique du Grotenbach se trouve dans l'actuel quartier d'Annen à Witten, dans le Bonnermannsfeld. Là-bas, un ruisseau coule encore le long du chemin du même nom, mais aujourd'hui, le Grotenbach commence quelques centaines de mètres plus loin à la sortie des tuyaux de l'ancienne usine d'acier d'Annen. Toujours à Annen, il a reçu le Heiligen Bach et le Steinbach. Alors que le premier a disparu en raison des affaissements de terrain, le Steinbach jaillit encore aujourd'hui dans le Herrenholz à Ardey, mais disparaît au sud d'Annen dans le canal.
