La tour de télécommunication de Petersberg a été construite de 1963 à 1965 par la Deutsche Post sur le Petersberg près de Halle, à côté de la tour de micro-ondes existante.
La raison de sa construction était l'expansion et l'amélioration de la transmission de la liaison micro-ondes Sud-Ouest. Depuis la prise en charge par la Deutsche Bundespost, puis la Deutsche Telekom et enfin Deutsche Funkturm, la tour de télécommunication est exploitée pour diffuser plusieurs programmes de radio pour la région de Halle. L'exploitant de l'émetteur est Media Broadcast. En général, l'emplacement de la tour de télécommunication est également appelé Halle.
