La torre di telecomunicazione di Petersberg è stata costruita dal servizio postale tedesco dal 1963 al 1965 sulla collina di Petersberg vicino a Halle, accanto alla torre di microonde esistente.
La ragione per la sua costruzione è stata l'espansione e il miglioramento della trasmissione del percorso di microonde Sud-Ovest. Dalla sua acquisizione da parte della Deutsche Bundespost, successivamente Deutsche Telekom e poi Deutsche Funkturm, la torre di telecomunicazione è utilizzata per la diffusione di diversi programmi radiofonici per la grande area di Halle. L'operatore della trasmittente è Media Broadcast. Comunemente, il sito della torre di telecomunicazione è anche chiamato Halle.
